Chapter 27 - Part 1: Are you a cheat too?

It is morning! It is time for breakfast!!

I was so tired yesterday, I slept like a rock. Of course, I had to use papa as a cushion. Sorry, papa.

When we came out of the cave, the goblins were already active.

Some had gone hunting at dawn, others brought water for us. Some were dismantling the frozen spider.

Huh. I know we shouldn't waste it, but I won't eat it. I will never do it, so, you guys eat it on your own, ok?!

And like that, the cave was lively.

I washed my face with cold water to clean it up and make myself more presentable.

Then, we had a simple breakfast with some fruits the goblins picked up for us, and papa's rations.

Now, it is time to negotiate with the former hobgoblin!

The objective is to get the captive adults released.

[So, can you let the human adults go as well?]

[Yeah, sure.]

.....Eh?! Easy like that?!!!

[Is that really fine!?]

[If we go along with your plan, having them will be a hindrance]

Uwa, he is so blunt....

And just like that, the adults were easily released.

There were five adults being held captive. One of them was a man, and the others were women.

I wondered if the women were being forced into that kind of thing, they are very beautiful.

When I asked him again, why he was releasing them so easily, he said the cleanup was a hassle.

What cleanup? No, lets not ask for datails. I feel like if I do, I won't be a maiden anymore!

With papa, his men, and the captives, the number of people heading to the village has increased a lot.

Of course, the former hobgoblin is with us as well. He looks more and more like an exhibitionist pervert, and it is hard to hold back my laughter.

Since the goblin's boss left with us, the cave was covered with a wide range of defensive magic.

Something like a barrier? I asked that, but it seems to be something similar but different. It looked like a difficult subject, so I gave up.

I told the gobins that stayed behind to not leave the cave too often. It is impossible to help them, if something happens.

When I saw Pino and Nino under the sunlight for the first time, they truly looked like angels.

Pino had bright yellow hair and shining dark green eyes. His curly and fluffy hair was bouncing. It somewhat reminded me of a sunflower.

Nino was the opposite of Pino, with dark green hair and bright amber eyes. Nino's hair is long, so, intead of curly, it was more like it had waves.

As for personality, Pino is calm and "my pace". Time seems to flow differently around him. And Nino is a tsundere. That is all there is to it!

The twins are really, truly opposites, but each have their own "moe" elements.

Oh yeah, the rabbit's injury has healed safely!

One of the knights could use healing magic, so I asked if he could heal it.

I also took the opportunity to ask papa if I could keep it.

[Nema is smart, so she knows the responsibility of keeping a living being, right?]

[Of course!]

Dee and Nox will be with me until the end. I'm sure they will leave me behind eventually though.

Dee is part of the family, so everyone takes care of her. And I take care of Nox by myself. When they get old, even if they can't move or get sick, that won't change. It is the owner's duty.

[Personally, I think it is best for them to stay where they are supposed to be. It is where they belong.]

... That is roundabout answer, but he means I shouldn't keep it, right?

[Why?]

[When people keep wild creatures, their nature gets distorted. They can't catch food on their own and they become less cautious.]

Oh, I can see that.

Stray cats won't come close to you, even if you feed them. But domestic cats are easy to touch, even when you meed them for the first time.

That is how it works, isn't it? But unlike cats, wild animals have a widely different nature.

But if you take care of them until they die, that isn't a problem, right?

I understand what papa is saying, but what is the relation of that and why I shouldn't keep it?

[Once distorted, their nature can't be restored and that creates new distortions.... Well, imagine the distortion as a ripple. IF Nema brings the rabbit back, a small ripple will be created in the world. This ripple will spread until it disappear or get swallowed by other ripples. It will be a phenomenoun in the world. Everyday, many ripples, small and large appear and create phenomenouns. That is how the world moves. ]

Wow. Somehow, the entire thing became too abstract for me to undertand.

Let's see. Let's say I break the laws of nature created by God. Regardless of how big or small, it will have some kind of impact on the world.

Is that how it goes?

[And then, that "some kind of impact" will come back to me?]

When you point a finger at someone, three are pointed to you? What goes around comes around?

....How did we arrive at that?

[The fewer ripples in the world, the better. Because no ripples means the world is calm and peaceful.]

Hum. If I have to say, it is more like the theory of everything. All things are connected, and if I do something strange, I create a distortion. The world tries to fix the distortion, and the backlash comes back to its origin, which is me.

Huh? Then, why was it fine with Nox?

[Creatures born in the beast house are already distorted by virtue of their birthplace. And for Nema's sake, Nox put a lot of effort, making the distortion even bigger.]

So, that is what happened. I was aware Nox's abilities far surpasses the other birds on the beast house.

Did I push Nox too hard?

[Nema is bound to become the center of ripples, so, it is better if the ripples are fewer and smaller, right?]

Hey, wait a minute!

This person is talking about people like they are big rocks!

How about we blow this serious mood away!!

All I care for is fluffing. I don't care about world peace!

Well, if someone gets in the way, I will kick it out using papa's power or Sol's cheat power though.

....Ah!!!!

You mean this personality of mine? You are saying this personality is going to make ripples in the world, right!?

No, no. It is fine. It is not too late yet.

For now, let's give up on the rabbit. Since it became a global scale type of conversation, it feels like that is the natural flow of action.

Is this the technique of a country's prime minister?

[I think it is better to let him go back to the forest too. It is sad to say goodbye, but....]

I was stopped!

The lonesome smile of an angel stopped me. I want to give her a big hug. ...I'm not tall enough.

[If you want to keep it, just keep it. Does it matter if it is distorted? It doesn't if you really want it. Besides, it is Nema we are talking about. You would avoid whatever backlash comes you way, anyway.]

As expected of a pround tsundere lady! Going against the flow.

But wasn't that last part a little unnecessary?

I was a little shaken by Nino's words, but managed to pull myself together and say goodbye to the rabbit.

I enjoyed its fluffiness one last time while admiring its twitching nose.

[I'm sorry, you were hurt because of me. Let's play together again!]

When I released the rabbit on the ground, it stared at me, shook its ears and then, ran into the forest.

Huh, I feel lonely...

Nox rubbed my cheek as if to cheer me up.

That is right. Nox is here, Dee is at home and I can see Sol today. ...Ah!

[Otou-sama]

I grabbed the little child who was hidden and gently held her out in front of papa.

I'm.. Really.. Sorry.

So, please....

[You know this spider is a monster, right?]

It is a child of a Frozen Spider, so, yes, it should be a monster.

[And it is a unique one, since it is all black.]

Now that you mention it, black isn't a very inviting color, is it? It is true that no animal is completely black.

[Do you know the difference between an animal and a monster?]

The former hobgoblin entered the conversation.

Translator Notes:

Nema calls her father and mother, papan and maman. But I saw way too many people confusing those for proper names, so I changed it to papa and mama. I feel like they are already cute and childish enough.

Nema talks like a baby a couple of times during the chapter, but I'm not very good in babynese, so, I translated them normally.

I used "otou-sama" at one point in the chapter. That is because I couldn't figure out a better way to convey the shift to very formal speech she does in English.

  1. Thanks for picking this up. Not sure if there are any translation errors but it seems like a good translation without any inconsistencies.
For the baby speech here are some nice rules how one could write that, though it might get a bit hard to read:
The "r" and "l" sounds are always replaced by "w"
The past tense always takes the plural case and has the simplest form, i.e., the phoneme "ought" is replaced with "o" as in "bots" for "bought"
The genitive case adds an "s" to the personal singular pronoun "me" to become "mes"
The short "u" sound, "uh", found in words like "love" will transition to a simple "u" as in "luv".
The "v" sound may be replaced by "b" such as the transition from "love" to "lub".
Double "oo"s are replaced by a singe "o".
The phoneme "er" is replaced by "wa". Example "water" may become "watwa" or "wa-wa"
    "S"s are often added randomly
Final silent "e"s are not written.
"Y"s that do not produce an "ee" sound are often dropped so that "today" becomes "todas"
Final consonants are often deleted. Example "last" becomes "las"
Doubled consonants are reduced to a single consonant.
The phoneme "th" is pronounced as "t" or "d"
I have yet to see a good solution for the switch between formal and informal language in japanese. Definetly don't go with Shakespeare english. But maybe more complex words and honorifics? Esteemed father for example.
Anyways I'm also happy with the translation as it is. Thanks again.

Edit: had to remove that link... just posted the rules from there... I did not check what the site was about beforehand.

    1. That is very detailed. Thank you for that. I will try to incorporate at least some of those tips. And I'm glad you liked the translation. I also removed your other comment.
